Whether you’re launching a job search or preparing for civilian life, our Work and Family Life Consultants (WFLCs) and workshops provide the guidance and tools you need.

Employment Readiness for Sailors & Family Members

Our Employment Readiness services support every stage of your career journey. Sailors and family members can meet one-on-one with a WFLC or attend instructor-led workshops covering:

  • Job search strategies
  • Career planning and goal setting
  • Resume writing and federal resume guidance
  • Interview techniques
  • Self-assessments and vocational testing
  • Federal employment information


The FFSC Career Center also offers computer access, internet, and current job postings.

New OPM Hiring Policy Expands Opportunities for Military Spouses

Military spouses now have access to more flexible federal job opportunities under a new Office of Personnel Management (OPM) hiring policy.

Under this policy, federal agencies may appoint eligible military spouses to temporary, term, or permanent civil service positions. To qualify, spouses must be currently married to an active-duty or injured service member at the time of appointment.

Transition Goals, Plans, and Success (TGPS)

Transition GPS (TGPS) prepares Sailors and family members for a successful shift into civilian life. TGPS is required for all separating service members and provides comprehensive training on employment, education, financial planning, and veteran resources.

  • TGPS workshops are scheduled through your Command Career Counselor.
  • Orders are required to attend.
